Good article on the CNN website on “12 Ways to Make Your Love Life Sizzle Again.” My own gynecologist says that almost every woman who has come into her office after having a baby has complained. But–is she complaining, or is her husband? Hmmm.
In any case, sex after baby and beyond doesn’t magically return for most couples. A little nudging is needed. As Dr. Lynn Shuster of the Mayo Clinic, points out in the article, there are two parts to wanting sex: drive, and desire. Drive is that tingly, gotta have sex right now feeling, desire goes beyond that to the emotional reasons a woman might want to have sex. That’s always a part of what we focus on in sex therapy–a more positive mindset about sex, and giving a woman permission to want pleasure instead of giving every last ounce of energy to being a mother.
A low drive is a solvable problem. A lost marriage is not.
