Wanting More Sexual Desire
Do you and your partner argue because of lack of desire? Or are you just plain sad that your sex drive doesn’t match up with your partner’s? Lack of desire, or low libido, is the most common sexual complaint. Unfortunately, there is no magic pill or bullet! With a bit of exploration, though, you can often find out how to re-ignite sexual interest and zest. Learn more...

Couples Therapy for Sexual Problems
Couples have many different reasons for seeking help besides low desire. Sometimes one partner wants a different kind of sexual behavior that one partner doesn’t. Partners may have trouble negotiating an alternative lifestyle. You may have gone through a big life change like a long separation and are having trouble being sexual. Here you can find competent, compassionate couples therapy that goes beyond just teaching a technique but gets at the heart and soul of what needs to change to make love better. Learn more...

Wanting to Experience Orgasm
This problem is also common, most often for women. Sometimes women call on us for help when they've never been able to achieve orgasm; sometimes they want to reclaim an experience lost to them due to a relationship gone sour, divorce, or some other experience that made it difficult to feel pleasure. You’ll learn how to have a better feeling overall about your body, to learn how to use your mind for pleasure, and techniques to make it all work the way you hope. Learn more...

Eliminating Erectile Dysfunction
Are you a man who doesn’t care to or can’t use medication erectile dysfunction? You can get help from us. You’ll get lots of information and guidance on how to maintain an erection or last longer for more enjoyable sex. (Dr. Buehler worked with Marines—she’s pretty good at making men feel comfortable in therapy!) If you are able to use medication, though, and are not getting the results you want, there may be an underlying sexual concern that needs to be addressed. Learn more...

Having More Comfortable Intercourse
Did you know that 10% of women experience uncomfortable or painful sex? Painful sex is not normal! Conditions like vaginismus, vulvodynia, and dyspareunia are hard to diagnose. Often, women with these painful conditions only learn what they are when they come to the Institute. We can direct you to healthcare providers who can provide appropriate medical treatment or physical therapy. But did you know that you can learn many techniques, such as relaxation, visualization, and the use of dilators to make intercourse more comfortable as well? Dr. Buehler and Ms. Seeberger recently wrote an article published in the National Vulvodynia Association newsletter on how sex therapy works to help women who experience uncomfortable sex.

Improving Premature Ejaculation
Are you annoyed or frustrated by lack of ejaculatory control? We also work with men who want to have longer, more satisfying intercourse. Premature ejaculation, also called rapid or early ejaculation, is a common problem that can affect quality of life for both you and your partner. If you can't last as long as you'd like, you can learn techniques that will help you and your partner have gratifying intercourse.

Sexual Addictions
Sexual addictions—especially to Internet pornography—are becoming increasingly common. Instant access and clever pornographers make it easy to fall into the trap of using pornography for sexual gratification, rather than turning to a loving partner. Other types of sexual problems that interfere with normal sexual and emotional functioning include multiple affairs, anonymous sex, sex in questionably legal circumstances, exhibitionism, frotterism (sneaky touching), and so forth.

Re-starting Sex after Pregnancy
The “6 week rule” is a myth of pregnancy. Somehow, magically, you’re supposed to feel the return of passion after 6 weeks. This is very unlikely due to lack of sleep and the baby’s demands! If you want to learn how to reconnect after baby, we have lots of ideas. Learn more...

Overcoming Sexual Problems Due to Infertility
The demands of fertility treatment can also bring about struggles with sex. You may find that sex becomes mechanical, or that there are problems with performance that were never there before. But you can learn how to cope with infertility and have a satisfying sex life. Learn more...

Coping with Changes after Illness, Pain, or Cancer
No question, these experiences can leave one’s sexuality bruised. But you can learn how to be sexual with one another despite changes or limitations. No, your sex life may not be the same—but it can still be satisfying.

Childhood Sexual Abuse
Have you had sexual experiences that have left you sad or fearful about sex? You are not alone. We see men, women, and couples who want to reclaim their sex lives. With gentle patience, you can have sexual pleasure again, without worry or shame. Learn more...
