Childhood Sexual Abuse
Current thinking about
premature ejaculation is
that it is often due to
performance anxiety, but any
type of anxiety, including
stress, may trigger your
loss of control of orgasm
and ejaculation. In
treating premature
ejaculation, it is important
for the therapist to gather
a complete sexual history
from you in order to
understand when the problem
began and what events may
trigger it. Premature
ejaculation is often a more
complex problem than it
appears; that is why various
techniques may not work, or
may work inconsistently.
You may be interested to
know that research suggests
that there may also be a
biological component to
premature ejaculation,
especially for men who have
never had good control or
who know that a male
relative also had this
problem. Without going into
detail, a protein that
affects the way the brain
uses serotonin may be
present. Although we do not
prescribe medication, as a
psychologist Dr. Buehler is
able to discuss and educate
you about medication and
referral to an appropriate
provider.
Even if you opt for
medication, for optimal
success you will probably
want or need to continue
your therapy, as you may
have a psychological or
relationship problem that
you haven't been able to
uncover by yourself. Fears
about the security of the
relationship itself and
other worries may prevent
you from experiencing the
intimacy you want and
deserve.
If you are looking for help
to maintain better
ejaculatory control, you've
come to the right place.
We're not embarrassed to
talk about it--and neither
should you, at least once
you get to know your
therapist. Please call Dr.
Buehler at 800-769-0342 to
schedule your initial
appointment.
